You Become What You Think About?

by Joe Turney

?You Become What you Think About.? I first heard that statement when I was 17 and immediately made it a part of my life. I immediately started thinking about and focusing on becoming financially successful.

By the time I was 30 I had been in and out of several network marketing companies and had tried about every money making venture I could find. I was much worse off financially. I had two mortgages, two car loans, a personal line of credit and two credit cards. All of them were maxed out and we were living off of credit cards at least one week out of every month. I was living in a small trailer 70 miles outside of town because I couldn?t afford anything better. I had over $30 thousand dollars in personal loans not counting our mortgage. My financial net worth was WAY below zero.

I started thinking that I must be missing something. The positive thinking model had not worked for me. I knew that what ever it was that I was missing must be very subtle, so much that most people could not even describe it. I kept hearing Jim Rohn say that success if VERY subtle. I didn?t know what it was that was missing but I knew for sure was that something had to change if I were ever going to become financially stable.

I spent several months searching for the missing link and eventually found it. I say that because two years later I had paid off ALL of my personal debt and had 20 thousand dollars in the bank. I found out that once I implemented the missing key, opportunities for income and wealth began pouring into my lap. Only a small portion of my financial change was due to Network Marketing, the rest was due to new opportunities that opened up for me that year.

Here?s the missing part of the famous statement ?You Become What You Think About?.

Your Become What You Think About
When you?re not thinking!
Let me explain.

I learned that it?s during your idle and free time that your life is shaped by your thoughts. It?s easy to set aside time each day to focus on and think about your goals, but that alone will not work! It?s what you are thinking about when your standing in line, riding in a car, sitting on your couch or walking in the park that determines how your life will turn out.

Think about this. Try to remember the last time you had some free time where you had nothing to do except wait or sit. Try to the most recent time possible such as standing in the shower this morning or standing in line at lunch. Now, here?s the magic question. During that time, did you ACTIVELY choose what to think about, or did you just think about whatever popped in your head? If you cannot say that you consciously chose what to think about during that time then the odds are that you are not moving toward your goals.

To ever break out of the rut you are living in you must become VERY sensitive to idle time and you must ACTIVELY choose what to think about during those times. ?You become what you think about? has now proven to be true for me but only after I started controlling my thoughts during my free and idle moments during the day. I had spent 10 years meditating on my goals on a regular basis but never had any success. Within 2 years of taking control of my idle thoughts I had reached 90% of my written goals.

Think about this the next time you are standing in line. If you are thinking about the hairstyle of the person in front of you then your life will never change from the way it is today.
