Network Marketing On the Internet (a basic mini how-to)
Network Marketing is a system of moving products (or services) via a network of distributors. This network is built by the distributors themselves as everyone they recruit (sign-up) becomes a wholesale customer who in turn has the right to recruit others. For example: Jack recruits Mary who recruits Tom who recruits John who recruits Nancy and so on. Jack earns a commission off the sales and purchases of Mary, Tom, John & Nancy and anyone else within this organization.
For years network marketing (also called MLM or multi-level marketing) has been done person-to-person or at opportunity presentations. Then network marketers started to use other techniques such as national advertising and direct mail. Where network marketing was pretty much done locally until this point national advertising and direct mail allowed the network marketer to take his products and opportunity national (and in some cases international). The telephone has also played a major part in long distance sponsoring. Then came the fax which added to the many methods by which information and promotions could be sent!!! These methods are still an important part of marketing and most likely will be for years to come.
Now a new method is on the scene, that of sponsoring through an array of methods on the Internet. If you don't already know the Internet is composed of several commercial and non-commercial bbs's, university networks, etc. The Internet is the worlds largest computer network. A computer network is basically a bunch of computers hooked together somehow to share information. Three main uses of the Internet for recruiting will be mentioned in this article/report. These are the World Wide Web, USENET, and e-mail.
E-MAIL
E-mail is a form of sending electronic messages from one online service member to another. Most all major computer services such as America Online and CompuServe allow you to send e-mail messages to members on other services via the Internet. So do most smaller BBS systems, although some do not allow you to send messages across the Internet but only to other users of the Bulletin Board Service. E-mail can be useful in sending messages to members of your downline, or sending information about your company to prospects who are online, and to doing what are called tags. A tag team is basically on online version of a three way call or an online follow-up done by several persons with an interest in your success. The great thing is that the follow-up messages are often sent by more than two people. Basically it involves members of your upline, downline or even company distributors outside of your line of sponsorship sending follow-up messages to the prospect. These can talk about your experience as a sponsor, the company's products and how great they are, the compensation plan or whatever else might encourage the prospect to join your downline. Also, you can have e-mail messages sent electronically by what is referred to by most as an auto-responder. You store your information in the computer of the host that is providing you with the auto-responder service and the auto-responder sends information (usually in about 30 seconds) as a response to the prospects e-mail message to your auto-responder address. An auto-responder is useful for sending information to a prospect if:
1) The prospect does not have access to the World Wide Web, or
2) If you don't have a site on the World Wide Web.
THE WORLD WIDE WEB
The Internet is the home of the World Wide Web, or the Web to its friends- is a major step forward in making the process of looking for information fast, powerful, and intuitive. The web through what is called hypertext (or more properly now hypermedia) allows not only for the incorporation of text but also graphics and sound. The World Wide Web can be used to basically have your own "store" on the Internet. You can have your information in this "virtual store" and use many methods to draw prospects. You can have "web pages" set up to offer information about the products, the marketing/compensation plan, training tools and more. You can have an online application form attached as part of your web site. This can be sent via e-mail or printed and faxed or sent by snail mail (USPS). E-mail icons can be incorporated into the web site so that a prospect can e-mail you with any questions they may have or inform you that they have joined. In all of your printed information such as business cards, letters, advertising, etc., be sure to include your web site address.
USENET
The Internet is also the home of USENET, a system of thousands of distributed bulletin boards called newsgroups. A bulletin board system is an electronic message system for reading and posting messages. Newsgroups used to be mainly for discussion and many of them still are. Unfortunately some business newsgroups such as alt.business.multi-level marketing which was set up for discussion is now becoming inundated with posts advertising various network marketing opportunities. For the most part these "ads" are not even responded to because the people who read the newsgroup are overcome by the numbers of ads. So what can you do: Post on only the appropriate newsgroups for ad posting... Post only if you have a URL (web address) and post it specifically and on the boards such as alt.business.multi-level marketing add to the discussion using what is known as a signature file to attract attention. A signature file is a file of four, not more than five lines long telling a little bit about yourself and your business without blatantly advertising your business. Mine reads as follows:
****************************************************
* Keith P. Stieneke Bringing You Health & Opportunity
* From Beautiful Lincoln, NE The Heart Of The Midwest
* netpro@inetnebr.com
* http://www.networkmarketing.com/LNL/10835.html
* Want Something For Free? E-Mail Me!!!
*****************************************************
In response to the "Want Something For Free" part of the signature file, I send the inquirer something such as this report to begin with and maybe a short online questionnaire asking about their current involvement in network marketing and if they are interested in having information about my current company. I might also add some teasers about the company I'm working such as answers to something like does your company offer this? Mainly, the best use of newsgroups is to use them as penny shoppers to attract people to your web site. If you do not have a web-site you should at least have an auto-responder system set up to send messages automatically to all people who inquirer.
The world of Internet marketing is only a few years old and doing network marketing on the Internet is an even newer venture, of which much can be written about. As you are reading this article someone out in cyberspace is most likely creating some new way to promote network marketing via the Internet. If you are not ready to start using these methods yourself shop around for a sponsor that does!!!
