Auto-Ship, Creating A 'CD-Like' Income In MLM!

by Robert Blackman

Auto-Ship.
Insured Order.

Back-up Order.

Secured Order.

Q-Club.

We've all heard of these and maybe a few more.

What exactly is the purpose of having your downline sign up on these programs?

Simple.

To secure your monthly MLM income.

That's why.

You mean get people to commit to a monthly draft of their credit card or bank account?

Will people really do that?

Won't they forget that they signed up?

Out of sight, out of mind, Robert?

Not quite.

Close, but not the whole story.

Securing your monthly income once you've spent your hard earned money and irreplaceable time recruiting and training your new downline members.

You don't just sign them up and say, "Go Get 'em!"

No.

I've learned the hard way about Auto-Ship.

You see, I used to "give-away" FREE memberships in my MLM programs.

Yes, that's right.

Kind of like the "Free Affiliate" thing now on the Internet--I used to "give-away" Free memberships to my MLM program, hoping two things would happen:

1) I'd get more people to join up front
2) I'd get more people to upgrade to a purchase

Want to know my "numbers" on one of my "Free MLM" offers?

Here we go:

Back in 1994 I was promoting a program called Gourmet Coffee Club.

I was clipping along nicely. Putting in 100-150 a month was a "norm".

After about 9 months I realized that I had been working my butt off and maxing out my Visa.

I decided to "check-out" my downline report one Saturday morning over coffee.

Here were my results after 9 months in that program where we gave away a Free Membership into the Gourmet Coffee Club:

1817 Members
377 Were On Auto-Ship
812 Had never ordered a thing
628 Had ordered at least ONCE!

My check was around $750 a month.

That's $9,000 a year additional income.

Was it worth it?

Did I have a strong organization?

Were people duplicating my efforts.

Did I have the potential of making $100,000 a year in the Coffee Club?

Could I....

I'll stop there.

The resounding answer to ALL of the above questions and ANY others you're thinking about is:

NO. Nadda. Never. No Way. Won't happen. Dreamin' my man. Get out of here. Wake UP!!!

Sorry, I got carried away there....

But, the point remains--I was crushed. Devastated.

I felt "duped" by my own game plan.

The "FREE" angle was soooo easy. It was a no-brainer. It closed about 20% of those I talked to.

I'd say:

"Do you drink coffee? Great! Join our Coffee Club. Membership is Free! All I need is your name and address and we'll send you out a free sample today!"

That was the pitch. It worked wonderfully.

The problem is the monthly commitment of $29.95 only paid me $3 per person.

Sponsor 1,000 active and you're only making $3,000 monthly.

Not a real money maker, but I knew that going in to it.

I realized it was an easy sale and it was a "blast" signing up fellow coffee drinkers around the country.

But, the bottom fell out for me and my group.

You see, I was the so-called "Leader" of the entire company.

And, since Perception in MLM is 9/10th's of the Law, when people found out I was only making $750 a month they said:

"If Blackman is only making $750 a month there's no money in this program--I'm canceling."

End of story.

Yes, I did manage to get my downline up and over the 7,000 mark in GCC. And, yes my check did make it over $2,000 a month.

But, the brutal truth is that less than 25% of my downline were on Auto-Ship.

Why?

Because I had STARTED without Auto-Ship.

And when I tried to Teach or Pitch Auto-Ship to the existing downline they treated me like I was speaking some sort of foreign language.

What did I learn?

That how you start is how you're going to finish in MLM.

Part 2 of the story goes like this.

I took that "data" from GCC and took it to another program.

Higher Ideals.

I'm mention their name because they are now out of business.

Yes, GCC is still in business, but they more or less gone to the Internet and are selling both direct to stores nationwide and through my downline.

I get a nice little check each month and free coffee for the work I did 6 years ago. Not bad, huh, for a former printing pressman. Don't you think?!

I gathered a few of my leaders together and pitched them on Higher Ideals.

We sent out 2,500 mailers to my leaders at my expense.

They mailed and called their leaders and so forth.

At the end of 30 days we had put in over 500 people and I had taken in over $80,000 in sales through my marketing and printing company.

So, how did I go from one extreme to another?

Simple.

I pitched Auto-Ship.

I pitched my monthly marketing system of leads/post-cards/co-ops/cassette tapes.

I pitched a "SYSTEM".

It made sense.

The numbers added up.

Everyone had experienced what I had--25% or less Auto-Ship retention.

I made a statement very similar to this on all the conference and 3-way calls I did for Higher Ideals during our 30-day sponsoring feast:

"If you're wanting to make a significant income in this program--anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 or more a month--and you're not willing to commit to a simple $40 Auto-Ship on products and another $30 Auto-Ship on Marketing Materials then DON'T JOIN!"

I wasn't rude.

I didn't come off as a know it all.

I was honest.

I was sincere.

I shared my past experiences with GCC.

I told them that if they didn't "DO" Auto-Ship that they'd be stuck with over 1,800 people in their downline after 9 or more months. And, that they'd have a measly $750 check that would soon dry up and disappear.

People were amazed.

People were shocked.

People would call me in droves applauding my stand.

People joined left and right to get involved with a system that treated their MLM like a "REAL BUSINESS!!!"

You see, how they come in is how over 99% will stay.

Upgrades rarely happen.

Yes, they do happen, but it depends on the caliber of the person and how you "pitch" them when they join.

I'd prefer to know "NOW" who's going on Auto-Ship and who isn't.

Wouldn't you?

If you have 100 people in your downline wouldn't you want all 100 of them ordering product and marketing materials every month?

I would.

And, I do.

Most of us, have this "fantasy" of creating a walk-away residual income in MLM.

I've been teaching the concept for years.

I currently have 3 streams of income in the MLM field that I haven't "touched" in years that keep coming in like interest on a CD.

And, yes, the rates are better than 7%!

So, how do YOU do the same thing?

First, you have to get focused.

I've made a big mistake back in the mid-90's.

I did more than one main program at once.

I did that because I was consulting with 3 or more MLM companies at a time.

I joined their "deal" as part of my consulting package.

I then found myself spending 18 hours a day in my office juggling 3 downlines.

Don't do that.

Instead pick ONE main program and maybe one or possible two secondary program--like leads, long distance, Internet service, etc.

Your secondary program should be something that compliments your main program.

For instance.

Let a health and nutritional program be your main focus and a lead program as your secondary focus.

That way, when people say NO to your main program (which over 90% will) you then pitch them on your lead program.

It's easy.

Turn a NO into a YES.

I do it all day long.

You should be to.

I make two checks instead of one--and I spend about 3 seconds longer on the phone with each of my prospects then you do by saying:

"What are you doing for leads?"

Bingo.

They fell bad for saying NO to my main program and they haven't a clue what their going to do about their leads.

They know they don't want to contact their family and friends and they don't have the money or expertise to invest in an ad campaign.

Put them into your lead program. Which, of course, I hope it is the lead program I run called Profit Network.

But, if it's not, that's fine. There are plenty of "good" generic lead programs out there. Call me and I'll tell you the ones I recommend.

I do agree with the concept that FREE is simpler and easier. And, that FREE will get you more fish in your net as you SCOOP it up out of the water.

But, what do you have after a full day on the FREE fishing boat of MLM?

A lot of minnows and sea trash.

I'd prefer to spend my limit of 24 hours in each day with folks like yourself that are open minded, pro-active and teachable.

And, Auto-Ship SCREENS your group for you.

Hey, MLM isn't welfare.

MLM isn't a government subsidy.

MLM is a BUSINESS.

And, if you're depending on MLM to make your mortgage, car and retirement fund payments why are you treating it like a Mickey Mouse investment.

You get back what you put in.

Put in a wooden nickel and you get "Tilt".

Put in a Silver Dollar and you get a shot at the big time.

I build my MLM business the old-fashion way--I build it like a REAL traditional business.

I tell people upfront of the investment and time involved. I tell people upfront that this is going to take hard work and it's going to take some "TIME" that they are going to have to "MAKE" and "FIND" out of their already overbooked planner.

Reality stinks, I know.

But, the reality is if you DON'T start doing TODAY what you've NEVER done before then you are going to keep on getting the same results in your life.

Kick your dog everyday when you get home and he'll growl.

Reach down and pet him instead and he'll lick and play with you.

Get your wife flowers and she'll fall back in love with you.

Ignore her at night and she'll do the same.

Join a MLM program and do little or nothing and your Auto-Draft out of your Credit Card or Bank account will ALWAYS be bigger than your commission check.

Learn to share the concept of Auto-Ship to over 100 people a month and I guarantee you that your commission check will be larger than your Auto-Draft!!!

To be a Six-Figure Income Earner in MLM you've got to do the following:

1) Be committed to ONE main program
2) Have an endless supply of lead every month
3) Have a system of filtering those leads
4) Make money when they say NO with books/tapes/leads
5) Make money when they say YES when they join on Auto-Ship

It's a simple 5 Step program.

I use it.

Others making $100,000 or more a year use it.

You can use it too.
